Online Coffee Sale Trends

1. Coffee shops’ curbside and pickup orders have jumped 5,380% since 2019.

(Specialty Coffee Association)

There’s more than one way to order your coffee online, and coffee shops have jumped on that bandwagon since the COVID-19 pandemic-related lockdowns of 2020. Curbside and pickup orders have gone up by well over 5,000%, and it doesn’t look like things will go back to the way that they were before.

2. Since 2019, 521% more coffee sellers now offer curbside delivery and/or pickup.

(Specialty Coffee Association)

Online sales for coffee shops have skyrocketed, so it’s no surprise that so many more are offering curbside delivery and/or pickup to make use of that trend. If you’re starting a coffee shop in 2022, you’ll need to have a way for customers to place online orders if you want to compete.

3. Ordering coffee through an app is up 46% since January 2020.

(National Coffee Association)

When we think of online sales, we often think of going to a website and placing an order. The truth is that you need to get your product on an app if you want to compete. Local coffee shops recognize this, and they will push apps that let their customers order their favorite beverages right from their phones!

4. Single-serve pods are more than triple other coffee sale types on Amazon.

(National Coffee Association)

If you are thinking about getting into the traditional online coffee sale business, you will want to consider selling single-serve pods. While there’s a market for other products online, single-serve pods dominate the market.

In any given month, you can expect single-serve pods to triple other coffee types in terms of sales, and in some months, those revenues quadruple! This is only through Amazon sales, but considering that it’s the single largest online coffee seller, that’s a big deal.

5. Coffee delivery sales have jumped 340% since 2019.

(Specialty Coffee Association)

Not only is curbside delivery and pickups becoming more common, but having the coffee sent to your home is also growing in popularity! With different apps and websites to order coffee, it’s never been easier to order coffee online and sent straight to your door!
