What to Do If Your Ninja Coffee Bar Keeps Shutting Off:

1. Check the indicators and setup.

The first thing you will want to do is look at your Ninja Coffee Bar’s control panel. Is the machine on and receiving power from your outlet? Are any indicators lit up? If you see lights on for Drip Stop or cleaning, you know what to fix. Push the Drip Stop lever to the right to open it for brewing and run a cleaning cycle to turn your cleaning indicator off.

Next, look at your setup. Refer back to the user manual to make sure you have got the machine arranged just the right way. Fill the water reservoir to the brew size you’re looking for and ensure that the dial is set to that brew size. Pull out the filter basket, put in a #4 paper filter or the Ninja’s permanent filter, and add scoops of medium-ground coffee using the included scoop. Replace the brew basket and push it in, making sure it swivels correctly and locks back into place.

Place the carafe or a large enough cup below the brew basket and select the coffee settings you’d like. Keep in mind that Classic brews will produce slightly more liquid, while Rich and Over Ice brews will be a bit more concentrated. Wait for the brew to finish before turning off your machine.

2. Run a cleaning cycle.

If your Ninja Coffee Bar still refuses to brew, it may be clogged up by mineral buildup. To clear the inner valves and tubes of minerals like calcium and magnesium, you may want to run a full descaling cycle.

Pour 16 ounces of white vinegar or commercial descaling solution into your Coffee Bar’s empty water reservoir. Then fill it to the max line with water. Place the carafe under the brew basket, set the size to brew a full carafe, and press the cleaning button.

This process takes about 60 minutes. Don’t unplug or turn off your machine until it has fully finished the cycle. When it is done, rinse out the carafe, brew basket, and water reservoir. Refill the reservoir to the max line, replace the carafe, and brew a full carafe of water. At the end of this, your Coffee Bar should be fully cleaned, descaled, and ready to brew!

3. Check your water reservoir.

Some users have reported a flaw in the Ninja’s water reservoir. At the bottom of the tank, there’s a plastic valve that controls water flow into the rest of the machine. If this valve breaks, the machine can’t get enough water flow to brew coffee, causing it to shut off.

Take yours off the machine and look at it closely. Does the plastic valve look right?  If you’re very handy, you may be able to repair or replace the valve yourself. If not, you can buy a low-cost replacement directly from Ninja, which also sells replacement scoops, frothing whisks, and other components.

4. Turn the machine off and on.

Here’s a piece of classic advice: turn your machine off and then back on. To do this with your Ninja Coffee Bar, unplug it from the wall and wait for 5 to 10 minutes. Then plug it back in and turn it on. This should reset the machine, resetting faulty indicators and other issues.

Keep in mind that if you have your brew timer set, this will disrupt it. You’ll need to reset the clock and set the brew timer again.
