The 10 Best Glass Coffee Mugs – Reviews 2021:
1. Bodum Bistro Double-Wall Insulated Coffee Mugs – Top Pick
We find that Bodum’s Bistro Double-Wall Insulated Coffee Mugs are some of the best double-walled coffee mugs on the market. These insulated 10-ounce mugs, which come in packs of two, are made of hand-blown, tempered borosilicate glass, with non-slip rubber on the base.
The Bodum Bistros are attractively designed and have a durable, expensive feel, in line with their higher price point. Though the 10-ounce capacity is on the smaller end, the mugs are elegant and lightweight, fitting easily into kitchen cabinets.
These mugs are microwave- and dishwasher-safe, though we found that using those appliances decreases the Bistro’s durability. If you’d like them to last a long time, you may prefer to hand wash and use another container for the microwave. They are backed up by a one-year warranty.
2. Sweese 4602 Double-Walled Insulated Glass Coffee Mugs
Another good double-walled option is the Sweese 4602 Double-Walled Insulated Glass Coffee Mug. These mugs, sold in a two-pack, have a larger 12.5-ounce capacity and are made of mouth-blown, tempered borosilicate glass.
They have a reasonably stylish design at a lower price point. However, we found them to be less durable. Though they are microwave-, freezer-, and dishwasher-safe, there is a small hole in the bottom that reopens easily, allowing water to flow between the mug’s walls. The Sweese 4602 has a short 30-day warranty.
3. Libbey Crystal Coffee Mug Set of 6– Best for the Money
If your budget is a bit tighter or you’re looking to stock up, the Libbey Crystal Coffee Mug, sold in a set of six, could be your pick. These very reasonably priced 13-ounce mugs have a sturdy, classic design, offering great, durable value.
At this low price point, you’ll have to give up a few features, like double-walled insulation and tempered glass. The Libbey Crystal mugs, which weigh over a pound each, do have thick enough glass to offer some insulation. These mugs are microwavable and dishwasher-safe, and we found them to come out of the dishwasher without a hint of wear. If something goes wrong, Libbey offers a 45-day return policy.
4. Anchor Hocking Café Glass Coffee Mugs (Set of 6)
The Anchor Hocking Café Glass Coffee Mugs, sold in a set of six, are another low-cost option with an interesting, café-style design, complete with a thick handle, an attractive footed base, and a large 16-ounce capacity.
Our favorite feature of these mugs is how easy they are to clean. The wide top is simple to hand wash, and the mugs are durable enough for the dishwasher. Plus, Anchor Hocking offers a very generous five-year warranty.
The downside? These heavy one-pound mugs are not made of tempered glass, so you may want to be careful pouring in boiling water. We also found that the handles are too small for comfortable holding.
5. Kitchables Coffee Mugs Double-Wall Thermo Insulated Cups
Another decent option is the Kitchables Double-Wall Thermo Insulated Coffee Mug. These mugs, sold in a set of two, are attractively designed and made of double-walled borosilicate glass but have a higher price point.
The 12-ounce Kitchables mugs, weighing under a pound each, have very large handles – a major plus if you have larger hands. They are dishwasher-, freezer-, and microwave-safe, though in testing, we found that they crack fairly easily. The good news? Kitchables offers a lifetime guarantee for returns and exchanges.
6. Arc International Luminarc Bolero Mug
The Arc International Luminarc Bolero Mug, sold in a set of four, is attractively priced and elegantly designed, with a footed base and a generous 16-ounce capacity. Weighing over a pound, these dishwasher-safe mugs are a bit bulky, but they’re also fairly durable, with a large opening and handle.
Though they have a nice shape, the glass quality of these mugs is not the highest. We found striations and bubbles in the glass, and there is some variability between batches. Arc International does not offer any warranty, though you can return unused mugs to Amazon.
7. Elixir Glassware Large Double-Wall Glass Coffee Mug
The very large Elixir Glassware Double-Wall Glass Coffee Mug is surprisingly lightweight but bulky and more expensive. It has a generous 16-ounce capacity and is made of double-walled, tempered borosilicate glass.
This mug has a cheaper feel, with unexpectedly thin glass walls, out–of–line with its high price point. With a large opening and handle, the Elixir mug is easy to hand wash. However, in testing, we found that it does not hold up well in the dishwasher, allowing water between the walls and acquiring scratches. Fortunately, Elixir offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee, so it’s simple to get a replacement.
8. PunPun Clear Double-Wall Insulated Coffee Mug
The PunPun Clear Double-Wall Insulated Coffee Mug, sold as a set of two, is a lightweight, reasonably-priced option with an attractive design. Each tempered, borosilicate glass mug has a capacity of 12.9 ounces and weighs about half a pound.
The thin walls of this mug feel cheaper and less durable. Though the PunPun is safe for use in the dishwasher, freezer, and microwave, the small hole in the base is only sealed with a thin layer of glue, which we found to be not very durable. PunPun does offer a satisfaction guarantee, so you can get a refund or replacement if your mug doesn’t work out.
9. KeepCup Reusable Coffee Cup
Do you drink your coffee on the go? The KeepCup Reusable Coffee Cup is the only glass mug we reviewed that works as a travel mug. This mug, which comes in eight-, 12-, and 16-ounce sizes, is made of tempered soda-lime glass and features internal fill lines.
Designed to fit in cup holders and under espresso group heads, the KeepCup comes with a travel-friendly BPA-free plastic lid and a cork or silicone band for comfortable holding. The lids come in a range of colors, and KeepCup sells replacements.
There’s a reason the KeepCup isn’t one of our top picks, though. It’s more expensive than its features justify, and hand–washing is recommended. While the glass feels durable, the plastic lid quickly begins to leak. KeepCup offers a limited 30-day replacement warranty.
10. Anchor Hocking Rio Glass Mug
Our least favorite option, the Anchor Hocking Rio Glass Mug, is a basic, sturdy mug with a 14-ounce capacity. While it has a fairly low price, it also offers fewer features and less durability.
This mug is dishwasher- and microwave-safe. Its design is fairly basic, and the non-tempered glass construction means it may crack with a sudden temperature change. We found the glass to be low quality, showing bubbles and other imperfections. Anchor Hocking does offer a nice five-year warranty.
Glass coffee mugs are attractive, pleasant to drink from, and don’t stain easily. On the flip side, they’re less durable and more likely to scratch, crack, or cloud. Read on for a few tips on what to look for and how to protect your glass.
Because glass doesn’t conduct heat well, it’s at risk of cracking under sudden temperature changes. Tempered glass is better able to withstand pressure and heat changes, so you may want to choose a more durable tempered mug. Borosilicate glass is specifically designed to handle thermal stress.
To lessen the shock of a sudden temperature change, you can prepare your mug by pre-rinsing it with warm water. You may also want to let your boiling liquids cool for a few seconds before you pour them in. Another tip? Before you pour in any liquid, put a metal spoon in the mug. The metal will dissipate some of the heat, leaving your glass to contend with less extreme temperatures.
Most of our recommended mugs are dishwasher-safe, but doing so could limit the lifespan of your glass. Part of the glass blowing process for double-walled mugs involves leaving a small hole in the bottom. These holes are more likely to reopen in the high water pressure of the dishwasher, allowing water to cloud your mugs’ walls. Plus, your mugs could get scratched or cracked, so you may prefer to hand wash.
