The 10 Best Drip Coffee Makers:
1. OXO BREW Drip Coffee Maker – Best Overall
The OXO Brew 9 Cup Programmable Drip Coffee Maker is one of the best programmable drip coffee makers on the market because it has the SCA-certification and brews delicious coffee. It achieves this by replicating the pour-over method with controlled brewing. Water is heated and held at the best temperature for coffee, to reduce that burnt taste of typical drip coffee. Coffee grounds are evenly saturated with water because of the rainmaker shower head, which is the best way to get full flavor extraction.
The simple dial on the front can program coffee up to 24 hours in advance. It can produce two to nine cups of coffee, which is great for any household. We also appreciated its sleekly modern design.
The only problem is that it tends to spill coffee if you remove the carafe before the brew cycle is complete.
All in all, we think this is the best drip coffee maker currently on the market.
2. Ninja Hot & Cold Automatic Drip-Coffee Brewer
We were also impressed with all the features of the Ninja Hot & Cold Automatic Drip Coffee Brewer. It brews either hot or cold coffee, and it has multiple brew sizes. You can brew anywhere from a single cup up to a full carafe. If you’re a tea drinker as well, the Ninja can brew up hot or cold tea. It even has a specially designed tea brew basket that accepts tea bags or loose-leaf tea. For coffee-and-milk drinkers, it has a built-in frother, which saves you from having to buy a separate one.
There’s a reason for it not being our top pick, however, and that’s because it leaves coffee sediment in your cup. The filter allows it to get through, so a coarser grind is recommended. That can be inconvenient when you‘re used to buying ground coffee. Both the coffee brew basket and the water reservoir are prone to leaking, and they’ll leave a mess on your counter if you aren’t careful.
3. Mr. Coffee Drip Coffee Maker – Best Value
The Mr. Coffee 10-Cup Drip Coffee Maker is our Best for the Money choice because it offers a lot of value with its many great features. We appreciated the built-in water filtration system that means you can just use tap water. You can pause the brew mid-cycle if you need to pour a cup before it’s finished filling the carafe.
The stainless steel thermal carafe keeps coffee hot and is a real step up from the traditional glass carafes. It also has a special cleaning cycle to make cleaning easier. The two-hour automatic shut-off is helpful for those of us who are forgetful or leave the house in a rush.
This coffee maker is large, so it’s not a great fit for those with less countertop space. It also makes weaker coffee compared to some of the others on our list.

4. Technivorm Moccamaster Drip Coffee Brewer
The Technivorm Moccamaster Drip-Coffee Brewer replicates the pour-over method in two ways. It allows the coffee to bloom with its cone-shaped brew basket that steeps the grounds for six minutes. The manual adjust basket allows you to toggle the brew basket closed to steep even longer.
This is a true advantage because it allows the full flavor of the coffee to be extracted. It also has a copper brewing element that heats the water to the optimal temperature, and the stainless steel thermal carafe keeps your coffee hot. Coffee-authority organizations like the ECBC, SCAA, and SCAE have approved it, which is always a mark in its favor.
So what are the issues? It’s pricey, for one. That’s not always a bad thing if the machine performs well, but some of the selling features don’t measure up. The showerhead doesn’t saturate the grounds fully like it’s supposed to. You can improve saturation with manual methods. However, that defeats the purpose of an automatic brewer.
5. Hamilton Beach Drip-Coffee Pot – Budget Buy
For those on a budget, the Hamilton Beach 12 Cup Programmable Coffee Maker is a great choice. It’s programmable so you can set it the night before, and it has an auto shut-off feature in case you forget to turn it off. It has three brew options: bold, regular, and one to four cups. For those who can’t wait for the entire carafe to fill before getting a cup of coffee, it has an auto pause and serve.
This is a no-frills type of coffee maker, with no additional features beyond the ones you expect from an automatic drip brewer. The coffee tends to be weak and bitter, and it brews slowly. It also leaks easily from both the basket and the carafe. The carafe is fragile, and there isn’t a replacement available.

6. BUNN BT Velocity Home Drip Coffee-Brewer
The Bunn BT Velocity 10-Cup Home Drip Coffee Brewer is another coffee maker that’s pretty no-frills with a simplistic design. It has a fast brewing time–a full pot of coffee in only three minutes. This is made possible by an internal water tank that keeps water at an optimal temperature any time you want coffee. It has a multi-stream spray head for even coffee ground saturation, and the specialized carafe spout is designed to prevent leaks.
The problems, though, have to do with the coffee maker’s speed. Because of this, the coffee isn’t given time to fully extract, resulting in weaker coffee. The grounds often overflow, especially if they‘re fine ground instead of coarse, and this is because the water is spraying over them so quickly. It also lacks a few of the typical automatic drip maker features, such as an automatic shut-off and programmable functions.
The Bonavita 8-Cup One-Touch Coffee Maker has a few great features. It has an auto shut-off, which is always a plus. There are two carafe choices: stainless steel and glass. The machine also has an optional mode that pre-wets the ground coffee before brewing to make sure it’s fully saturated. The coffee it makes is good drip coffee, though not the best.
There are quite a few downsides, however. There isn’t a programmable feature, so you can’t set it to brew the night before. The carafe and basket filter are overly complicated: you have to remove the carafe’s lid and screw on a separate lid that fits into the basket filter, which is an annoying design quirk. It’s also difficult to empty all the water from the tank. And even though it has an internal water heater, the water isn’t hot enough. If you opt for the stainless steel carafe, it doesn’t include a warming plate.
8. Cuisinart DCC-3200 Programmable Drip Coffeemaker
If you’re looking for a coffee maker with a lot of color options, the Cuisinart 14-Cup Programmable Drip Coffeemaker might be a great choice. It comes in eight different colors and styles, which is unique on our list of drip coffee makers. It’s also fully automatic, with lots of features like 24-hour advance programming, self-clean, and auto shut-off.
Despite all those pretty colors, the coffee maker has some design flaws. It leaks easily, and the carafe spills every time you pour it. It makes weak coffee, and the basket clogs easily. It also doesn’t make 14 cups of coffee like it says–the basket isn’t big enough for a proper grounds-to-water ratio. The water tank is in an awkward place that’s difficult to fill, especially if it’s underneath a cabinet.
9. Braun KF7000BK Brew Sense Drip Coffee Maker
The Braun Brew Sense Drip Coffee Maker is a fully programmable machine with multiple features like auto shut-off, 24-hour advance programming, self-clean, pause and pour mid-brew, and coffee strength options. It also has a design feature that keeps condensation from dripping on the counter like other drip coffee makers.
However, there seem to be quite a few problems with this coffee maker. The water isn’t the optimal temperature for brewing (not hot enough), which results in weak-tasting coffee. The coffee grounds often overflow the small basket, even when you use coarse ground coffee. The different strength settings for the coffee seem to have no effect. The water tank seems to have some design flaws: you can’t see how much water is in the tank, and you can’t remove it from the coffee maker.
10. Black & Decker CM1200B CoffeeBrewer
The Black & Decker 12-Cup Drip Coffee Maker is very compact and would fit in a small kitchen, so that’s a plus for those who are short on counter space. It also has a pause and pour feature in case you’d like a cup before it finishes brewing.
Unfortunately, those are the only two things going for this coffee maker. It has no automatic features other than the pause and pour function. It only has an on/off button, and it doesn’t feature an auto shut-off. The coffee it makes is weak and bitter, and the capacity isn’t a full 12 cups. The glass carafe is very thin, and it shatters easily.
The coffee maker and carafe leak easily, which can be frustrating. The measurement indicators on the water tank are difficult to see, especially early in the morning. The design also leaves a lot to be desired. Worst of all, though, is the fact that the coffee is on the weak side with a bitter aftertaste.
Factors To Consider When Choosing the Best Drip Coffee Maker
Since they were first invented in 1908, drip coffee machines have come a long way. Modern drip coffee makers can be simple or complicated, with machines that only have a simple on/off button, or ones that offer a variety of features. If you’re researching the best drip-maker for your needs, here are some things to consider.
If you prefer a drip coffee maker that does a lot of things at the push of a button, you might want to consider ones that have features like:
- 24-hour programming: so you can set the coffee maker the night before to brew in the morning
- Auto shut-off: in case you forget to turn off the coffee maker
- Self-cleaning function: where you push a button and typically add vinegar or a different type of descaler to the coffee maker, and it takes care of the rest
- Coffee strength choices: like bold and regular (you can also adjust the amount of coffee grounds used)
- Pause and pour function: where you can remove the carafe and pour a cup before it’s finished brewing
Size is an important consideration when you have limited counter space in your kitchen, as a drip coffee maker will typically remain sitting out all the time. Because it creates a lot of steam and condensation, you’ll want some clearance between the top of the coffee maker and the bottom of your cabinets.
Because drip coffee makers usually stay out on the countertop in your kitchen, style is an important consideration. It helps to have a coffee maker that you don’t mind looking at all the time. Some of the models on our list even come in different color options.
Type of carafe
The drip coffee makers on our list have two types of carafes: stainless steel thermal and glass. Stainless steel thermal carafes are made to keep the coffee warm without a heating element, but the coffee maker won’t include a warming plate with them. A glass carafe won’t keep the coffee hot on its own, but the coffee maker will include a warming plate. Stainless steel is also more durable than glass, which means it’ll typically last longer.
Some of the coffee makers on our list have brewing features that mimic the pour-over brewing method, which can bring out the full flavors in your coffee. This gives you the best of both worlds: an automatic drip brewer and the full-flavored extraction of pour-over brewing.
Many drip coffee makers also include a shower head-style sprayer that is designed to thoroughly wet the grounds. This is another effort by drip coffee maker manufacturers to ensure full extraction of the coffee, and it’s a great feature to have.
Some of the coffee makers on our list go above and beyond the typical features to include special ones unique to that particular model. This includes the milk frother and special tea basket that the Ninja Hot & Cold Brewerhas, and the copper heating element of the Technivorm Moccamaster Drip-Coffee Brewer. These are features that can help make a coffee maker stand out, depending upon your own needs and preferences.
So what are the best drip coffee makers available this year? The OXO BREW Programmable Drip Coffee Maker is our top pick because it makes a superior cup of coffee. It’s SCA-certified to be good coffee because it replicates the pour–over method, which allows for full flavor extraction. It also has the features you expect from an automatic drip coffee maker, like being able to program it a day in advance and brewing up a full carafe of coffee.
Mr. Coffee is the brand you think of for auto-drip coffee makers, and its 10-Cup Drip Coffee Maker is our Best for the Money choice because it has a lot of great features without breaking the bank. Along with automatic features like auto shut-off, it also has a water filtration system so you don’t have to worry about using purified water.
We hope our reviews and buying guide have made it easier for you to decide which type of drip coffee maker is best for you.
