Pibb Zero is the zero-calorie version of Pibb Xtra and is produced by The Coca-Cola Company. Since Pibb Xtra contains no calories, it also contains no sugar. However, if you’re watching your caffeine intake, you may be curious about how much is in Pibb Zero. Pibb Zero contains 40 milligrams (mg) of caffeine, but you probably have nothing to compare it to know if that’s a lot. Below, we’ll compare Pibb Zero to other caffeinated beverages so you know whether you need to cut down on Pibb Zero.

Pibb Zero’s caffeine content is on the lower end compared to other sodas and diet sodas. While Coca-Cola and Pepsi have less, Pibb Zero does not contain a dangerous amount of caffeine. Experts recommend that adults consume no more than 400 mg of caffeine in one day; you would have to consume 10 cans of Pibb Zero to reach the limit. So, you most likely don’t have to worry about Pibb Zero causing any side effects.
However, some people are “caffeine sensitive,” and less than 400 mg causes side effects for them. Possible side effects from caffeine include insomnia, anxiety, and rhabdomyolysis.
Interesting Facts About Pibb Xtra
Pibb Xtra has undergone three name changes and a reformulation, while Pibb Zero is on its second and has had a reformulation of its own. On June 28th, 1972, The Coca-Cola Company debuted a new soft drink called “Dr. Peppo.” This was a blatant rip-off of Dr. Pepper, and Dr. Pepper’s distributor sued Coca-Cola and won. On June 24th, 1974, Dr. Peppo was rebranded as “Mr. Pibb.”
Mr. Pibb lasted for 27 years until it was discontinued and replaced with Pibb Xtra on June 27th, 2001. Pibb Xtra was a reformulated version of Mr. Pibb meant to have more of a cherry flavor. During these 27 years, Diet Mr. Pibb was created, and it had to be changed as well, so it was reformulated to taste more like Pibb Xtra and rechristened “Pibb Zero.”
As you can see, Pibb Zero has less caffeine than many drinks on our list, but it also has more than a few. If you’ve decided that Pibb Zero is the right drink for you, make sure that you stick to the recommended daily allowance for caffeine. For those that prefer a moderate amount of caffeine (and 0 calories) in their beverages, Mr. Pibb is an excellent choice.
