Although many people believe you get what you pay for, that doesn’t always mean you can’t get a good cup of Honduran Joe for a good price. To make our point, we have found Twin Peaks Premium All Natural Single-Serve Honduran Coffee. This pour-over option comes with ten 12-gram pouches that are made in the Copan region.
These pods are a good option for making quick cups of good coffee. What’s more, it’s all-natural with no GMOs, additives, or artificial flavors. Made from Arabica beans, you will find a medium roast with a full body and earthy flavor. The brew has a sweet undertone without any overpowering bitterness or acidity.
Twin Peaks pods don’t require a coffee maker or any other appliance to enjoy. You can simply pour in some hot water. It has a flavorful aroma that is bold, yet pleasant. The one drawback to this option, however, is it’s not as strong as some other brews from this country. If you are looking for a strong cup, it may not be the right choice. As the name suggests, this is an all-natural, organic product that comes in a few different sized bags, though the 16-ounce is the most readily available. This is also a Direct Trade Certified and Kosher Certified coffee.
Made without any artificial ingredients, Volcanica beans have a low acidity with notes of honeysuckle. Fans of this brew find it to have a tea-like mouthfeel with lemongrass and berry flavors, as well. Grown in the Copan region, it’s a medium roast that is smooth-bodied without a lot of bitterness.
This whole-bean product comes in a resealable bag that will keep your coffee fresh until you are ready to brew. Cultivated at 3,000 feet in volcanic soil, this is a great option for a smooth and bright coffee. Be that as it may, you will also find this coffee has a higher price tag, though we feel it is well worth the price.
4. Crazy Fresh Honduran Santa Rosa SHG Whole Bean Coffee
The Crazy Fresh Honduran Santa Rosa SHG Whole Bean Coffee is a mouthful to say and to taste. Available in a two or five-pound bag, you will find these beans to be a light blonde medium roast. They have a full-bodied flavor that is smooth and rich with an earthy aroma. It has milk chocolate notes, as well.
This brew has a perfect amount of bitterness without being overwhelming. The acidic taste is understated, plus you can use these beans to make a tasty cold-brew. Crisp and bright, they’re grown in Santa Rosa but roasted in the USA.
One note about this coffee that keeps it out of the top three is the fact that it’s not organic. What you will find Crazy Fresh coffee to be is fresh due to the resealable bag that has a valve to keep light and moisture from drying out your beans. The only other drawback is many customers find their bags don’t have a roast-by date.
5. Subtle Earth Organic Coffee Cafe Don Pablo
If you are looking for a medium to dark roast coffee from Honduras, Subtle Earth Organic Coffee from Don Pablo Cafe is a good pick. This whole bean coffee comes in a two-pound bag and is made in Marcala. Part of the Sharing Certified Program and 100% organic, this coffee is roasted and packed in the USA.
Subtle Earth makes a great cold brew with its rich, milk chocolate notes and depth of flavor. The full-bodied brew has a sweeter after taste and a velvet body. You will also find it to have a clean mouthfeel with hints of honey, caramel, and cocoa. Made of Arabica beans, they are GMO-free and grown without any chemicals. That being said, it’s important to note that these beans have less caffeine per bag than typical coffee.
We wanted to point out that it’s a good idea to transfer this coffee to a sealable container to keep it fresh. Also, while its low-acidic taste is not bitter, the overall mouthfeel can be a bit subtle in comparison with other beans from the same area.
6. Cafe Molido: Coffee El Indio Extra Fuerte
Our sixth option is the Cafe Molido: Coffee El Indio Extra Fuerte. This is an individual one-ounce brew you can get in quantities of 16. Each packet makes one pot of coffee and keeps you from having to measure out the perfect amount. The pre-ground packets help keep the coffee fresh, as well.
This option is rich yet strong. It has an intense dark color with a smooth taste that is neither too bitter nor too acidic. You will find the medium-roast is made with the best-harvested grains and has subtle hints of chocolate. Keep in mind, however, this coffee is preferably made in a French press versus a drip coffee maker or other brewer. Additionally, it’s not organic.
Cafe Molido coffee is a very bold coffee that can be too strong for those who are not used to it. Ironically, you will also find that it contains cane sugar. On the other hand, the individual packets make traveling with the coffee easier. Plus, it has a rich and flavorful aroma.
7. Cafe Oro Coffee From Honduras
The Cafe Oro Coffee From Honduras is a pre-ground brew also known as the “Golden Coffee.” This is a smooth blend that comes in individual packets you can take with you on the go and helps keep your coffee fresh. Darkly roasted, this brew has notes of honey and an intense aroma and appearance.
Available in a 16-ounce bag, this finely ground coffee is not the best option for a French press. That being said, the unique and bold flavor creates a full-bodied mouthfeel. Although, it can be too strong for some coffee drinkers, it is not overly bitter or acidic.
While many people are a fan of this coffee, finding information on ingredients, origins, etc., is difficult. Information is very limited, not just online, but on the packaging itself. What we can discern is that the beans are made with sugar, and it’s not organic. What’s more, it can be hard to find a roast-by or expiration date.
8. Grounds 4 Compassion Organic Honduran Coffee
Another whole bean option, the Grounds 4 Compassion Organic Honduran Coffee is a single-sourced brew that is made with 100% Arabica beans. Available in a 12-ounce bag, you will find it is better to brew this coffee in an espresso machine versus the more convenient options most people have.
Grounds 4 Compassion coffee is an organic medium roast that is smooth and mild. It is said to have a full-bodied taste with nut and caramel notes. That being said, many people find that this brew is lacking boldness and can be on the bland side. In addition to that, the after taste has a distinct bitterness with an acidity that can be hard to ignore.
The packaging the beans come in leaves something to be desired, as well. You should consider putting them in an airtight container to keep them fresh. Finding your coffee has gone stale is never pleasant, but as this is a more costly option, it’s even more frustrating.
9. Van Houtte Honduras Extra Bold Coffee K-Cup
Our second to last option is Van Houtte Honduras Extra Bold Coffee K-Cup. As you can tell from the title, this ground brew is made in the K-cup form that can only be used with a Keurig. It comes in a 24 or 72 count box, and it’s a medium roast coffee.
This velvet and woodsy blend has an extra-bold flavor that is very intense, and typically can be too strong for the average coffee drinker. The boldness is made more prominent as you don’t have the water to coffee ratio options with K-cups. In addition to that drawback, many customers have had trouble with the K-cups leaking.
This coffee is described as having a soft aroma, and delicate acidity with sweet top notes. Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of bitterness to the flavor with a harsh acidic taste. Further, it shows that this product is organic, yet that doesn’t seem to be the case. While it’s made of 100% Arabica beans, it contains artificial flavors.
10. Monte Vista Craft Coffee
Our final Honduran coffee is the Monte Vista Craft Coffee. This is a whole bean 12-ounce option that is grown in a single origin from a single farmer at 4,700 feet above sea level. Unfortunately, the organic micro-batch doesn’t have the best flavor.
Expressed to have citrus and caramel flavors, the coffee is too acidic and harsh to taste anything else. What’s worse, the coffee has a very strong and unpleasant odor that many people do not care for. As a medium roast, the floral and chocolate notes are lost due to staleness from the packaging.
Monte Vista has an uneven flavor at best with a bad after taste. It is also better in a drip coffee maker and not recommended in a French press or espresso machine. Many people also have found that their bags have expiration dates that are closer than is normally acceptable. Overall, this is our least favorite Honduran coffee.

Now that you have some solid recommendations to try out, we also wanted to give you some additional information on this unique coffee. As Honduran beans have only grown in popularity over the years (without signs of stopping), it is only fitting that you know the background of your favorite brew.
The Growth of Honduran Coffee Production
While Honduran coffee wasn’t always popular in the United States, United Kingdom, and Europe, the Central American country has been growing Arabica coffee beans for more than a century-if not longer. Unfortunately, many obstacles played a part in preventing the exportation of the fruit. In fact, there was a time when 90% of coffee beans grown in Honduras were consumed in-house with only 10% exported.
Until the late 1950s, Honduran coffee farmers didn’t have the means to move their products in front of a large consumer base. Poverty, malnutrition, and illness were big hurdles to overcome. Growing a crop that could take years to make a profit was also hard to overcome.
The biggest obstacle, however, was a lack of roads and other means of transportation. On top of that, civil unrest in the country made expanding and modernizing their agricultural exports difficult.
In the mid-twentieth century, however, Ramón Villeda Morales was elected President and made some headway modernizing the transportation system. While coffee export increased rapidly, it was devastatingly crushed a few decades later when Hurricane Mitch wiped out about 90% percent of their agriculture.
Making Honduran Coffee
Fast forward to 2012 when Honduras was named Coffee Producer of the Year by the Special Coffees Association of America; a coveted award that added them to the list of elite Arabica coffee bean farmers. Due to unique growing and processing, Honduran coffee was quickly becoming a world favorite.
The vast majority of Honduran coffee is grown by small farmers at high altitudes. That is not what makes them special, however. The growing conditions in Honduras are pretty standard for coffee farms in other locals like Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua. What gives their coffee its unique flavors, however, comes from the processing.
Wet Processing, also called washing beans, is an alternative way of extracting the bean from the cherry after harvesting. In this case, instead of leaving the cherries in the sun to dry, they are placed in a wet mill where they are shaken to help remove the fruit’s flesh- also called de-pulping.
Wet Processing Flavors
Now we get into the good stuff; how wet processing affects the flavor of the beans. Typically, farmers that wash their beans create a more acidic coffee. It has a more delicate taste that is clean and well-balanced. It also has complex flavors depending on the region it was grown.
A common flavor in Honduran coffee is chocolate with light notes of apricot and berries. It can also have darker yet smooth tones of caramel with tropical fruit hints. As mentioned, though, the region, growing conditions, processing (not every farmer in Honduras uses wet processing), roasting, and other factors play a role in the outcome.
